Read it as a ladder. Both countries climb the same rungs, one inch of bust-to-band difference at a time. They simply give the rungs different names once they pass DD.

Sizes where the label changes

This table covers the sizes people most often need to convert. Each cell is the US label for the UK size in that row and column.

Three things to check before you order

  1. Which system the listing uses. A US retailer selling a British brand such as Panache or Freya will often list the UK size. A size like 32FF or 34GG can only be UK, because American sizing has no double letters beyond DD.
  2. How that US brand names its cups. American brands are not consistent with each other above DD. One brand's DDD is another's F, and some use DDDD where others use G. If the brand publishes a size chart, follow it.
  3. The returns policy. A converted size is a well-informed first try. Brands cut differently enough that you may still need the next cup up or down.

For the reasons the two systems split, and the labelling traps that catch people out, read UK vs US bra sizes. For Europe, France and Australia, use the international chart.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UK 34E in US sizes?

A US 34DDD, which some American brands label 34F. The band stays the same and the cup moves from the UK E to the US DDD/F.

What is a UK DD in the US?

A US DD. The two systems are identical up to and including DD. They start to differ at the next cup, which is an E in the UK and a DDD or F in the US.

Do I need to change the band when converting UK to US?

No. Both countries use the same inch-based band numbers, so a UK 34 is a US 34. Only the cup letter can change.

What is a UK G cup in the US?

A US I. The UK G is the tenth cup in the UK sequence, which lines up with the letter I in American sizing.
