Each cell shows the bust measurement that size is built for. Rows are bands, columns are cups.

An AA cup is any difference under one inch, so it has no single figure and is left off the grid.

How to read the chart

  1. Find your band. Measure snugly around your ribcage under your breasts and round to the nearest even number. That is your row.
  2. Find your bust. Measure around the fullest part and look along your row for the closest figure.
  3. Read the cup. The heading of that column is your cup. Row plus column is your starting size.

If your underbust is 32 and your bust is 37, go to the 32 row, find 37, and read up: DD. Your starting size is 32DD.

UK band size chart

Your band is your real underbust measurement rounded to the nearest even number, with nothing added.

The ranges meet at the odd numbers on purpose. If you measure exactly 31 inches you sit between a 30 and a 32, and it is worth trying both. Prefer the smaller band if you like a firm fit or have soft tissue around your ribs, and the larger if your ribcage is bony or firm bands bother you. For the reasoning behind the fit, see how tight a bra band should be.

UK cup size chart

Cup size is the difference between your bust measurement and your band. Each inch is one cup.

UK sizing uses double letters that other systems do not. After D comes DD, then E, F, FF, G, GG and so on, and there is no I cup. The reasoning is covered in UK cup sizes in order.

Why the same cup letter is different on each band

Look down any column of the chart. A 30D is built for a 34-inch bust and a 38D for a 42-inch bust. Both are a D because both are four inches bigger than their band, but the 38D cup is much larger in volume.

The chart also shows why sizes come in families. Moving one row down and one column left leaves the bust figure unchanged: 32DD, 34D and 36C are all built for a 37-inch bust. Those are sister sizes, and the sister size chart lays them out in full.

What the chart cannot show

The chart describes the measurements a size is designed around. It cannot describe your shape. Two people with a 32-inch underbust and a 37-inch bust can need different cups if one has fuller, more projected breasts and the other has wider, shallower ones. Brands differ as well, because nothing obliges them to cut to a shared standard. The brand guides cover how individual retailers size.

Use the chart to find the first size to try. Then put the bra on and check the fit properly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the smallest UK bra size?

In mainstream ranges the smallest band is usually a 28 and the smallest cup an AA. A few specialist and teen ranges go down to a 26 band. Availability thins out at both ends of the chart, so smaller bands and larger cups are mostly sold by specialist retailers.

Is a 34C the same as a 36C?

No. The letter is relative to the band. A 36C has a longer band and a larger cup than a 34C. The size with the same cup volume as a 34C on a 36 band is a 36B.

Does the chart work for every brand?

It shows the measurements each size is designed around. Brands interpret them with their own patterns, so treat the chart as the size to try first in any brand and adjust from how it fits.

How do I use the chart with centimetres?

Switch the chart to centimetres with the button above it. UK sizes are built on inches, so the centimetre figures are rounded conversions. If you fall between two rows, choose by how firm you like the band.

Not measured recently? It takes two minutes.
