The mistake to avoid
The band conversion is easy to remember and the cup letter looks familiar, so people convert the number and keep the letter. That works up to a D. Past it, the European letter is always further along the alphabet than the UK one for the same cup.
An EU 75F is a UK 34E. If you wear a UK 34F and order a 75F, the bra will be one cup too small. In European lettering you need a 75G.
Shopping European brands in the UK
- Look for a UK size on the label or listing first. Many continental brands sold in Britain print both, and UK retailers often list the UK equivalent.
- Check which chart the retailer uses. A size dropdown showing 70, 75, 80 is European. One showing 32, 34, 36 is UK or US.
- Above an EU F, use the brand's own chart. Continental brands do not all letter larger cups the same way, and some size ranges stop earlier than British full-bust brands do.
- A French or Spanish label is different again. If the band reads 85, 90 or 95 where you expected 70, 75 or 80, use the French to UK converter.
Once you have the UK size, treat it like any other starting size and check the fit. Continental cuts can differ in cup depth and wire width from British ones.
