How the conversion works
The band is arithmetic. European bands are the underbust in centimetres rounded to the nearest five, so each UK band has one fixed EU partner.
The cups need more care. From A to D the letters match. After D, the UK goes DD, E, F, FF, G, and Europe goes E, F, G, H, I. So the European letter is one ahead at a UK DD and E, two ahead at a UK FF, and the gap keeps growing.
Where European sizing is less predictable
- Above an EU F brands differ. Some skip the letter I, and some make each cup step slightly smaller than an inch. A chart can only give the most common pattern.
- France, Belgium and Spain use the same cups with a different band number, 15 higher. A UK 34 is an EU 75 and a French 90.
- Italy has its own band numbering (1, 2, 3 and so on) on some labels. Check the brand's chart.
If the brand publishes a size chart, use it in preference to a general conversion. For every system in one place, see the international bra size chart.
Frequently asked questions
What is a UK 34D in EU sizes?
A 75D. The UK 34 band is an EU 75, and D is the same letter in both systems.
What is a UK 34DD in European sizes?
A 75E. Europe does not use DD, so the cup after D is E.
How do I convert a UK band to EU?
Multiply the UK band by 2.5 and subtract 10. A 32 becomes 70, a 34 becomes 75, a 36 becomes 80. Each UK band step of 2 is an EU step of 5.
