The sizes in bold are the ones to use. The outer two share the cup volume in theory, but are proportioned for a noticeably different frame.

When to choose 30DD

Choose 30DD if the 32 band feels loose. Note the letter: one cup up from D in UK sizing is DD. 30 bands are less widely stocked than 32s, so you may need a specialist retailer or to order online.

When to choose 34C

Choose 34C if the 32 band is uncomfortably firm and the cups are right. 34C is sold almost everywhere, which also makes it the practical stand-in when a 32D is out of stock.

What a 32D measures

30DD30 in (76 cm)35 in (89 cm)30DD65E
32D32 in (81 cm)36 in (91 cm)32D70D
34C34 in (86 cm)37 in (94 cm)34C75C

All three sizes are designed around a bust of about 36 inches. The difference is how much of that total is ribcage and how much is breast, which is why the band changes and the cup letter moves the other way.

A 32D is often assumed to be a large size because of the letter. Its cup holds the same as a 34C or a 36B.

If neither sister size works

Sister sizes only help when the cup volume is already right. If you spill out of a 32D or the cups gape, keep the 32 band and change the cup letter. If you are unsure which problem you have, when to sister size up or down will help you decide, and the calculator will give you a fresh starting size from your measurements.

Frequently asked questions

What is the sister size of a 32D?

30DD on a firmer band and 34C on a looser band. Both have the same cup volume as a 32D.

Is a 30DD the same as a 32D?

The cups hold the same volume. The 30DD has a band one size smaller, so it fits more firmly around the ribcage.

Can I wear a 36B if I am a 32D?

That is two steps away. The cup volume is the same on paper, but the wires, straps and proportions are made for a larger frame, and the band will be four inches longer. It is unlikely to support you well.
