The firm-band reputation
The most consistent comment about Panache is that its bands are firm, with less stretch than some other brands. For many people that is a benefit: a band that grips is what gives support, particularly with a fuller bust, and it stays supportive for longer as the elastic ages.
It does mean the bra can feel tight on first wearing. Three things to do:
- Check it is only firm. On the loosest hook you should be able to slide two fingers under the band and breathe deeply. The tests are in how tight a bra band should be.
- Give it a few wears. New elastic eases a little.
- If it is painful, go up a band and down a cup. A 32G becomes a 34FF. The sister size chart gives the pair for any size. An extender is another option while the band wears in.
Styles differ, so do not assume every Panache bra will fit you the same way.
Cups
Panache's best-known styles are unlined and seamed, with side support. They are generally reported as true to UK sizing in the cup. Its moulded styles, like moulded bras from any brand, are less forgiving of shape, and some people need a cup up.
The different lines
- Panache: the main range. Everyday and fashion bras for D to K cups.
- Cleo by Panache: a younger, more colourful line in the same size system. Often suggested for narrower, more projected shapes.
- Sculptresse: designed for larger bands with fuller cups.
- Panache Sport: wired and non-wired sports bras in band and cup sizes, with selected styles made up to a J cup.
Panache Sport sizing
Buy your usual UK size. The bra will feel firmer than an everyday one, and that is intended. The checks that matter are that you can breathe deeply, nothing spills at the neckline or underarm, and the band does not move when you raise your arms. See how a sports bra should fit.
Which size to try first
- Start with your measured UK size. Use the calculator if you are unsure.
- If your underbust is an odd number, try the larger of your two bands first in Panache.
- Take the cup above and below when trying a style for the first time.
- Check reviews of the specific style for comments on band and cup fit.
Compared with other full-bust brands
Freya, Curvy Kate and Panache cover a similar range of sizes with different cuts. If a Panache band is too firm for you in every style, the others may suit you better. See our guides to Freya and Curvy Kate.
Frequently asked questions
Do Panache bras run true to size?
Panache uses standard UK sizing. Wearers commonly describe its bands as firm, particularly in some of its best-known everyday styles and in Panache Sport. If you are between bands, or new to the brand, try your usual size and the next band up with one cup letter down.
What sizes does Panache make?
Panache is a full-bust brand making D to K cups. Core styles run from a 28 to a 40 band, with some extending to 42 and 44 in a narrower range of cups.
Is Panache Sport sized the same as Panache bras?
Yes, in UK band and cup sizes. Start with your usual Panache or UK size. Sports bras feel firmer by design, so judge by breathing and containment, not by first impression.
